When we walk, the first point of contact with the ground is our feet. The human body can take on average 10,000 steps per day. Poor ankle/foot alignment/control with an excessively low or high arch position can impact on the entire lower limb and spine. The poor alignment can compromise our ability to absorb the force of impact. Our body compensates for the poor alignment, which can lead to foot, ankle, knee, hip, pelvic or low back pain.
What does biomechanical assessment involve?
The assessment is two fold. Firstly, specific measurements are taken of your foot position, joint mobility and leg length. Secondly, a mould impression is taken of your foot. Measurements from both are used to provide a personalised prescription specifically for your feet. Orthotics are insoles prescribed to correct biomechanics of the foot and lower limb.
The type/Cost of orthotics prescribed will depend on medical history/ lifestyle/ activity level and footwear. Devices vary from off the shelf orthotics to custom made orthotics. Prices vary from €45.00 to €150.00.
